A Review of the Cotopaxi Allpa 35L Travel Pack: An Awesome Backpack

Cotopaxi Allpa 35L Backpack

My sheer enjoyment for outdoor and travel gear is one fun fact about me that’s undeniable. Over the past few years, I have come to appreciate features in bags and backpacks that complement a camping trip or a cross-country journey. Cotopaxi has a new travel pack, Allpa 35L, that can be utilized as either your backpack or your travel bag.

Features at a Glance:

  • Made from TPU-coated 1000D polyester and durable 840D ballistic nylon paneling
  • Chest clip and removable waist belt
  • Suitcase-style with the pack laying flat when all the way unzipped
  • Zippered mesh pockets inside to keep everything in place
  • Top-zippered compartment for easy access of frequently needed items
  • Four carabiner loops
  • Multiple carry options for both suitcase-style or backpack-style carry
  • Measures 20 x 12 x 8 inches (51 x 30 x 20 centimeters)

Upon initial inspection, the Allpa 35L appears to be a standard backpack with all the familiar features one would expect. However, when you take a deeper dive into the pack, it becomes obvious that this backpack is intended for travel. With its labyrinth of compartments and zipper that goes nearly the entire way around, the Allpa 35L has all the cargo space you’d need for a carry-on or more.

This bag holds a lot of stuff and unzips to lie flat like a suitcase.

When the main compartment is opened, the backpack lays flat almost like a suitcase, and the layout of pockets are easily accessed and user-friendly. You can quickly find an appropriate pocket to house your toiletries, passports or snacks. There is useful netting in place to secure your belongings and prevent them from being shifted around. The main pocket is spacious and easily fits rolled-up clothes, towels, or outerwear.

For any traveler who schleps their laptop with them anywhere and everywhere, the Allpa features a cushioned pocket intended for a laptop that is both supportive and protective. The pocket has an additional strap that tightly holds your computer in place.

Given all of the Allpa’s fantastic features, there are also many ways to carry the bag to suit your purposes or style. If you prefer carrying bags like suitcases, the Allpa has a handle that can meet your preference. However, if you’re like me, you enjoy equal distribution of weight, so it’s better to wear the Allpa backpack style.

The durable straps are comfortable and make carrying the load simple. One item I love is the sternum clip. Once I started using backpacks that had sternum clips, the game was changed. The Allpa has an outstanding clip that definitely helps equalize the heavier hefts.

Zipper loops are perfect to keep zippers in place or clip on a carabiner.

Another interesting component to the Allpa 35L is its security zippers. These heavy-duty loops keep your zipper pulls firmly in place. I have had experiences with other backpacks coming unzipped from overstuffing, but with this pack, the zipper pulls have nowhere to go.

I would absolutely recommend this bag for a carry-on bag or even your only travel bag if you tend to pack light. The spaces are practical and very conductive for all your travel necessities. The Allpa 35L is also not a bad fit for a camping or fishing trip. The pack comes with a rainfly to repel the rain. Since there is so much storage space, I suggest filling the Allpa to its capacity—unless you want to leave some space for souvenirs.

The Allpa 35L is available on Cotopaxi’s website.
